Choosing Your Lube

Choosing Your Lube

From choking the bishop to the tango of twenty toes, lube can make pretty much any sexual act more enjoyable and comfortable.  You need to know which one to apply to the correct situation to receive the most satisfaction.

What are the types of lube?

Lube comes in four basic forms.  Water, silicone, oil, and hybrid.  They each possess their own unique qualities, which is why you should not just purchase the first bottle you come in contact with.

What are your options?

Water-Based

By far the most versatile substance in the lubrication world as it can be applied to aid in most dirty deeds and works well with all orifices.

It is the best choice when using sex toys that contain silicone, as it will not harm them like silicone-based lubes.

It will not stain your bed set or clothing.

It is a great choice for condom use.

It is wonderful for people with sensitive skin, such as myself.  Under normal circumstances, it is my beaver slide soaker of choice.

And major perk?  It is super easy to clean up.

Silicone Based

Silicone lube is hypoallergenic.

The major advantage of using silicone lube is that it doesn't need to be reapplied as often as water-based.  It is also by far the best candidate for a steamy session of shower sex.

Silicone lubrication should not be used with any sex toys that contain silicone.  It's a big no no since it runs the risk of breaking down the material.

Oil Based

Although this is my least favorite form, it does have its uses such as being the best choice for anal.  It also does not need to be reapplied.

Vagina owners should use these products with caution because there are higher rates of vaginal infections.

You should under no circumstances use them with a condom!  They will break them down, putting an end to your fun time.

They can stain clothing and bedding and are a pain in the rear to clean up after.

Then there is hybrid lubricant, which is simply a combination of the different forms mentioned above.

Common ingredients that companies try to sneak in that you should try to avoid would be glycerin, nonoxynol-9, petroleum, propylene glycol, and chlorhexidine gluconate.  Your privates will thank you since they are known to cause inflammation and irritation.  Not exactly what you're looking for during those intimate times.

So, guys and gals, grease up your genitals with the appropriate substances and savor pleasing your partner or yourself.  :)

Happy humping!
